Mobilizon
Framasoft's federated events-and-groups platform — the de-Facebooked neighborhood events board, where RSVPs don't require accounts and nobody's attention is being farmed.
Mobilizon was built by Framasoft, the French free-software association, as a deliberate answer to 'all our neighborhood events live on Facebook': a federated (ActivityPub) platform for events and groups, where a group gets a page, discussions, and event listings, and attendees can RSVP without creating an account. No algorithmic feed, no data extraction, no 'people also viewed.'
Since 2024 it's been maintained by the Kaihuri association — a handoff with Framasoft's blessing, not a fork — with Framasoft still running the flagship mobilizon.fr instance for the French associative world. AGPL-3.0-or-later, Elixir, with dozens of public instances to join instead of self-hosting.
Honest status: maintained at small-association capacity — healthy, but a dependency to watch rather than bet a city on. For one neighborhood's repair cafés and porch concerts, that's plenty.
Neighborhood remix: one Mobilizon group as the block's events board — seed swap, stoop concert, fix-it night — with the RSVP link on the paper flyer, and the paper flyer still on the mailboxes, because the stack includes paper.
