Places hold memory, identity, and possibility, and when communities lose connection to place through displacement, development, or erasure, they lose part of themselves. This recipe turns one specific place into a canvas for collective memory: pick a single street, corner, or building and document it so intensively that it becomes a mirror for the whole community to see its history and its future. Specificity creates universality, displays change regularly to build anticipation, all histories are included (especially the ignored ones), and the space itself is allowed to determine the format.

How it works

1. Choose a place that is under threat or undervalued.
2. Document everything: who was here, what happened, what it means.
3. Layer past onto present, such as old photos in current windows and elder stories on young walls.
4. Make the invisible history visible in the actual place.
5. Change the display regularly to pull people back.
6. Let the place tell its own story through accumulated details.
